Eileen Barnett

Board of Directors, Executive Committee

Welcome to MTG! I love performing in musicals, but maybe even more, I love rescuing dogs. I've had as many as 5. Love that unconditional love!

About Eileen

On Broadway, Eileen played Luisa Contini in Tommy Tune’s Tony® Award-winning musical, NINE. She also starred as Vi Moore in the National Tour of FOOTLOOSE. One of her favorite roles was Florence Foster Jenkins in ICT’s production of GLORIOUS! She played the mother in the Ovation Award-winning Havok Theatre Company’s production of KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN. Some of her favorite regional theatre roles include Aldonza in MAN OF LA MANCHA, Lucille in NO, NO, NANETTE, Julie in SHOW BOAT, and Nancy in OLIVER! Eileen performed the role of Fosca in MTG’s West Coast premiere of Stephen Sondheim’s PASSION, for which she won a Robby Award. She appeared in RADIO GALS at the Pasadena Playhouse and won a Drama-Logue Award for her role in that production as well as for her role in THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS. Other California appearances include Billy Barnes’ MOVIE STAR, QUEEN OF THE STARDUST BALLROOM with Tyne Daly, and Judith Viorst’s LOVE AND SHRIMP, which also played at The Ballroom in New York with Bonnie Franklin and Mariette Hartley. She starred in Amanda McBroom’s HEARTBEATS, enjoyed a long run in Neil Simon’s RUMORS, opposite Bernie Kopel, and was in the West Coast premiere of Stephen Sondheim’s PUTTING IT TOGETHER and THE YOUNG MAN FROM ATLANTA.

Some of Eileen’s television credits include BLACKISH, ANGIE TRIBECA, MAD MEN, HARRY’S LAW, WORKAHOLICS, SOUTHLAND, ER, BROTHERS AND SISTERS, STRONG MEDICINE, THE GILMORE GIRLS, CAROLINE IN THE CITY, MURDER SHE WROTE, MATLOCK, DESIGNING WOMEN, WHO’S THE BOSS and KNOTS LANDING, where she played opposite Michael York. Soap fans may remember her as the evil Stephanie Woodruff on DAYS OF OUR LIVES.

Eileen has recorded her cabaret act on her CD, “Eileen Barnett, Live at The Cinegrill.” Her recording for children, “Broadway With A Beat,” won a NAPPA Award (National Parenting Publications Award).

She has performed in many Musical Theatre Guild shows and she has also produced MTG productions, including SEESAW, MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG, A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN, SATURDAY NIGHT, and WHERE’S CHARLEY?

She lives in Los Angeles with her three dogs and wonderful husband, actor Bruce French.

Fun Facts

I'm proud to be an MTG member because

Being around a group of such talented professionals is amazing. We all share a love of musical theatre and getting to perform so many different roles has added so much to my life as an artist. I also love being on the other side of the table, so to speak. I've learned so much about producing and working with people. It's a huge part of my life and I love to share it with everyone.

Dream Role

It used to be Aldonza in MAN OF LA MANCHA. I did get to do it several times. I did a reading of THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA. I think I'd love to do a run of that show.

Favorite Role I Have Played

Fosca in PASSION and Florence Foster Jenkins (not with MTG)

My Favorite Musical

This is hard. PASSION, CAROUSEL, THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA

Favorite MTG Show I Have Been In

Fosca in PASSION

Funniest / Most Memorable Thing That's Happened to Me on Stage

Many things that happen on stage or in rehearsal can give you the giggles, but when I got my first laugh as a performer, that changed my life. Realizing that I could do comedy opened up the world to me. I was 16, in a professional summer stock company. I can't remember what I did exactly, but I got laughs consistently whenever I performed that number.
