About Dino

Dino Nicandros is a Los Angeles-New York-based actor and a proud member of the Musical Theatre Guild. A native of Houston, Texas, Dino moved to California in 2010, where he pursued his education at Pepperdine University. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree (cum laude) in Theatre Arts, Emphasis in Acting, and was the recipient of the university’s John Raitt Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Performing Arts (2014).

At home both on stage and in front of the camera, Dino has entertained audiences in prominent venues throughout California, across the country, and internationally. He was most recently seen on stage in McCoy/Rigby Entertainment’s international production of PETER PAN (Smee) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The production garnered the distinction of being the first American Broadway musical to ever be performed in the Kingdom as part of the annual Riyadh Season Festival. Just before that, Dino was seen in 3-D Theatricals’ critically acclaimed production of THE SECRET GARDEN (Archibald Craven) and the Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival’s production of GRAND HOTEL (Otto Kringelein) in Auburn, New York. Additionally, he appeared in a staged concert reading of AGE OF POWER (Nikola Tesla), a new musical written by Dave Caplan and Allen Jay Zipper, and composed by Tony® Award-winner Mark Hollmann (URINETOWN). You can also find Dino in Pueblo Sight and Sounds’ film THE INFILTRATORS (Radym), which made its world premiere at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. The film took home the festival’s prestigious “Next Audience” and “Next Innovator” awards and was subsequently seen at film festivals all across the country. Up next: you’ll be able to see Dino in Jim Mahoney’s new upcoming feature film, BAR FIGHT (Cameron).

Some of Dino’s other notable credits include: McCoy/Rigby Entertainment’s THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME (Singing Voice of Quasimodo); 3-D Theatricals’ YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN (Dr. Frederick Frankenstein); International City Theatre’s DADDY LONG LEGS (Jervis Pendleton); Sacramento Music Circus’ production of 9 TO 5 (Joe); Candlelight Pavilion Theater’s HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING (J. Pierpont Finch); Sacramento Music Circus’ production of THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME (ensemble); and McCoy/Rigby Entertainment’s LES MISERABLES (ensemble), nominated for seven 2014 LA STAGE Alliance Ovation Awards, including “Best Production Of A Musical” and “Best Acting Ensemble Of A Musical.” Dino was also a member of McCoy/Rigby Entertainment’s 1st and 2nd Canada/U.S. tours of RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER THE MUSICAL (Boss Elf).

Dino’s work has also included appearances in nationally distributed commercials for Thrivent Financial (Office Robot) and Jardiance (Dimitri’s son).

At Pepperdine University, Dino played many versatile stage roles, most notably Jean Valjean in LES MISERABLES. He also debuted the role of Joe Angelo in the world premiere of Scottish playwright Peter Arnott’s play WHY DO YOU STAND THERE IN THE RAIN? at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2012, with the production earning the prestigious 2012 Fringe First Award. He later reprised the role for the production’s U.S. premiere and its national tour of Scotland in 2013.

His master class training included studying under Sir Anthony Hopkins and Pepperdine’s study abroad program in Scotland in association with Playwrights’ Studio Scotland and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Dino attended high school in Houston, Texas, where he was a recipient of the Best Leading Actor Award (Julian Marsh in Memorial High School’s production of 42ND STREET) at the 2010 Tommy Tune Awards, staged by Houston’s TUTS Theatre Under The Stars for excellence in high school theatre. He appeared on Broadway as a Jimmy Award Nominee For Best Performance By An Actor at the 2010 National High School Musical Theatre Awards.

ZORBA

Funniest / Most Memorable Thing That's Happened to Me on Stage

In college, I was doing a two-man Black Box play (Arthur Miller's CLARA) with a good friend of mine. We were about 20 minutes in--and mind you this whole play is essentially an interrogation/recollection piece--when we slowly started to realize that we had skipped about 20 pages ahead in the script. To this day we still have no idea who gave the wrong cue or how we got off course, but SOMEHOW we managed to talk ourselves back to where we needed to be without anyone in the audience realizing it after the fact. Horrifying and exhilarating.
