Outreach

Nothing compares to experiencing live theatre in a formal stage setting.
MTG Outreach

The American Musical Theatre is regarded by scholars to be one of only two truly American Art forms. Musical Theatre Guild’s STUDENT OUTREACH and educational programs offer an excellent introduction to this uniquely American treasure and will inspire and excite a new generation of theatre artists and audiences.

Each of our educational shows includes professionally prepared Study Guides for both before and after the performance. All programs comply with most state educational standards.

Our Productions

Our educational revues have been changing student’s lives for decades. Click on the shows below to learn more about our productions.

Musical Theatre Guild Cultivates Audiences of the Future
Students attending a preview of a musical to learn about the history of the topic.

Your generous donations allow us to bring high school students to the theatre free of charge. These students from all over the greater Los Angeles area are often attending theatre for the very first time. Before the performance, our members visit the students in their classrooms to discuss musical theatre, the show they’re about to see, and how the show and/or its subject matter has affected their history, both past and present. For example, during THE PAJAMA GAME, Unions were discussed. Before HALLELUJAH, BABY!, the Fair Housing Act was explained. For SUGAR, the influence of film on theatre was explored. In addition, Musical Theatre Guild’s two award-winning children’s shows are brought to even younger audiences every year. These shows, performed by Musical Theatre Guild members at Elementary Schools, introduce musical theatre storytelling in an entertaining, accessible, and wholly unforgettable way. It’s just another reason Musical Theatre Guild is one of the most important assets to the LA Musical Theatre community.

Spreading Love

In addition to our extensive in-school outreach, the Musical Theatre Guild regularly provides FREE tickets to hundreds of students throughout our season. For many Los Angeles area students, attending a Musical Theatre Guild show at the Alex Theatre is their introduction to a lifetime of enjoying this truly American art form.  This program is funded by our generous patrons and donors. After today’s school outreach performance of REVOLUTION!, a young man hesitantly raised his hand to ask a question. I saw concern on his teacher’s face. After he spoke she broke into tears and I wondered why. It turns out he has special needs and rarely, if ever, speaks. The show was a break through to him. This is why arts in the school are vital! Day made!

From our Students

I would like to thank you for providing me with a new experience. I have never been to a live theater show, and with your generous donation, it was possible. The performing arts have gained my attention, especially those a part of the Musical Theater Guild. I have grown to tremendously enjoy musicals because of this opportunity. So once again thank you for showing me a part of the arts I had never seen before. I hope you…continue to keep in touch to provide other students such as myself with a night of wonder.
