Mary Van Arsdel

Mary has performed in dozens of plays and musicals in various cities during a career that has spanned twenty-five years. Many audience members remember her for creating the role of Jetta in the original cast of ANGRY HOUSEWIVES in Seattle, as well as performing the role at The Odyssey Theatre in Los Angeles. She is the recipient of three Drama-Logue Awards for outstanding performances, and most recently received the prestigious Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award as well as a Garland Award Honorable Mention for Music Directing and Ensemble Performance in Noel Coward's TONIGHT AT 8:30 at Pacific Resident Theatre, where she has been a company member for seven years. Recently, she was seen opposite Linda Purl in the workshop production of Ron Abel's new musical, NO. 9 RUE D'ANTIN: THE STORY OF CAMILLE. Her Benefit performances include the STAGES/ACTORS FUND "Tribute to Kurt Weill" at the Luckman Theatre alongside Shirley Jones, Sally Kellerman, Tim Curry, Eileen Brennan and others; "Yes, Yes Nanette", an all-star birthday tribute to Nanette Fabray at The Pasadena Playhouse; and singing a duet with Beau Bridges at Theatre West's "Tribute to Richard Dreyfus". Recordings include demo cast albums for the new musicals NO. 9 RUE D'ANTIN, and GREAT EXPECTATIONS, as well as her own solo CD, "When At Night I Go To Sleep". She has also been featured in the workshop production of GREAT EXPECTATIONS with Cloris Leachman. Film and TV appearances include a supporting role in the hit film "In the Line of Fire" (with Clint Eastwood and John Malkovich); recurring as Corbin Bernsen's new secretary on the final season of "L.A. Law"; "Melrose Place", "Unsolved Mysteries", "Seven Days", and many others. She received her training in New York, London, Seattle and Los Angeles, and was named a finalist in the Northwest Regional San Francisco Opera Competition in 1984. She holds a Bachelor's Degree Magna Cum Laude from venerable Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine and teaches voice, speech and singing at her own private studio.
