National Tour Star Ashley Fox Linton on BONNIE AND National Tour Star Ashley Fox Linton on BONNIE AND CLYDE, from our 2015-16 season: "BONNIE & CLYDE has such a terrific score and didn’t have a long enough run on Broadway to be a appreciated by a larger audience, which made it ideal for MTG. Playing Bonnie was a challenge to rehearse in only 25 hours! So many action-packed scenes!! Luckily, those tunes sink in fast and it’s always a treat to play opposite my dear friend, Will Collyer. We both reveled in playing rebels. Calvin Remsberg is a wizard at making the scripts disappear with his direction and the cast was just stellar. My favorite thing about performing with MTG is that you know you’re working with the very best folks in the industry and there’s an inherent camaraderie that comes with creating something together so quickly. Reis on THE GOLDEN APPLE, from our 2014-15 season "For me, many MTG productions feel like they took place a BILLION years ago!  Because a MTG production runs its course from rehearsal to closing in 25 hours, sometimes it is hard for me to even remember which productions I've been a part of!  And then someone reminds me of a show, says something, finds a photo, and I'm like, "Oh my gosh, I was in that show?"  I remember THE GOLDEN APPLE, though.  What I appreciated most about that experience was being able to work so closely and nicely with the director Michael Van Duzer.  He had approached me about playing the part of “Paris,” a dancing role (which is where I always feel most comfortable and at home.)  He trusted me and gave me a lot of freedom to come up on my own what I thought felt right and would be effective in the short amount of time we had.  It was an absolute pleasure working with Michael in this way and to try to help bring his ideas and vision to life.  Plus, I had a blast meeting and working with Kelly Lester and Jennifer Bennett!  Fun, lovely ladies!!" Kevin Symons on TRIUMPH OF LOVE, from our 2014-15 Kevin Symons on TRIUMPH OF LOVE, from our 2014-15 season: "What a fantastic experience I had being a part of TRIUMPH OF LOVE!  It is a musical based on a hilarious 1732 French commedia dell’arte play and, thanks to A. Jeffrey Schoenberg, the costumes were gorgeous!  The brilliant Kristen Chandler directed and the incredible Brent Crayon was Musical Director.  I mean, playing Hermocrates, I got to be in love with Shannon Warne, sing a funny/touching duet with my “sister” Eileen Barnett, share the stage with friends Misty Cotton, Stan Chandler, Scott Harlan and Jeffrey Scott Parsons (all MTG members) AND wear an outrageous wig and waaaay too much makeup!!  What’s not to love?!  Thanks, MTG!!" Broadway Star Stan Chandler on CITY OF ANGELS, fro Broadway Star Stan Chandler on CITY OF ANGELS, from our 2013-14 season: "Playing “Stine” in CITY OF ANGELS was a dream come true. Prior to this, I’d almost always been hired as a tenor, but when Joel Bishoff cast me, I was able to flex a little baritone! The score is really jazzy and cool, and I think the rest of the cast would agree with me that it was a joy to sing. The show isn’t produced very often, as there isn’t an easily rent-able set and it’s a very stylized piece. The cool thing about Musical Theatre Guild is, without a set or big production values, you still walk away from a performance understanding the heart and soul of a show. I think this was made vividly clear with CITY OF ANGELS." National Tour Star Pamela Hamill on RUTHLESS!, fro National Tour Star Pamela Hamill on RUTHLESS!, from our 2013-14 season: "RUTHLESS was part of our 2013-2014 season, our first at the Moss Theater in Santa Monica.  It's based on the play and movie “The Bad Seed.”  I think it was the first time I worked with Todd Nielsen (Sylvia St. Croix) where he was not the director or choreographer!  He was fabulous in drag and very funny.  Also it was the first time I had worked with Lindsey Alley (Miss Thorne/Miss Block) since the first-ever workshop of the musical PAPER MOON back around 1990 where she played 'Addie Pray' and was maybe 10-12 years old!  That's one of the things I love about doing MTG shows, working with old friends and making new ones.  I still use my character's (Lita Encore) big number, "I Hate Musicals", for auditions and it always gets a laugh.  A little-known fact, it was the first time, at least for me, that our first complete run-thru without stopping was also our one and only performance!" It had not been a success on Off-Broadway because the book was a little “quirky”, but it had a nice score. It was the perfect show for Musical Theatre Guild. MTG takes little known shows and “flops” and gives them a beautifully sung reading. With Calvin Remsberg as director, Jim May as musical director and Peggy Hickey as choreographer, I knew DEATH TAKES A HOLIDAY would get as good a rendition/reading as possible. We put the show together in our allotted 25 hours and I was really proud of the way it turned out. The cast sang the music beautifully and the staging and choreography gave the audience a chance to see/hear what DEATH TAKES A HOLIDAY was all about. For me, I got a chance to work on a show that I might never have had an opportunity to do. It was also a special treat for me to work opposite Helen Geller." TBT - Lowe Taylor Cunningham on WONDERFUL TOWN, fr TBT - Lowe Taylor Cunningham on WONDERFUL TOWN, from our 2013-14 season: "Receiving the opportunity to play “Ruth” in WONDERFUL TOWN for Lewis Wilkenfeld and MTG was one of the highlights of my acting career.  First, the score is so delicious and really allows Ruth to show off her contralto chops! Secondly, the cast across the board assembled by MTG for this gem of a show was top notch and each and every one a dream to work with.  One fun memory for me from this show - I can't choose just one and I could likely choose 10! - is playing the dinner party scene.  Kristi Holden, Jeffrey Scott Parsons and Will Collyer and scene partners that dreams are made of!  And Lewis' direction really allowed us to play, shine and be our silliest selves.  It was too much fun every night!   Oh, and my other favorite memory occurred post show when Broadway legend Roger Bart congratulated me and said, "That's the lowest note I've ever heard a woman sing! Are you a bass??" It really gave me a nice giggle!" The shows are put up and are over in such a short amount of time it just speeds by.  One of those special moments was when I got to sing the song "I Got Rhythm" which was originally sung by Ethel Merman in this Broadway show and undoubtably put her on the road to stardom. When I got to sing that extended note that is so famously linked to her it was an electric moment for me. I purposefully threw a little Merman style along with my own as a tip of the hat to her. The audience's energy and big response was so amazing. And while I would like to think they appreciated me a little, I know the applause was infused with her spirit and the legendary historical moment in time attributed to this song and her performance. It's a gift to be able to stand on the shoulders of theatrical giants. TBT - Broadway Star Melissa Fahn on A CATERED AFFA TBT - Broadway Star Melissa Fahn on A CATERED AFFAIR (2012-13): This memoir of MTG’s A CATERED AFFAIR is tenderly dedicated to our beloved Marsha Kramer and Roy Leake Jr….who played my mother and uncle exquisitely. When I heard that MTG would be doing A CATERED AFFAIR I was somehow drawn to it without really knowing much about the material…except for the fact that it was based on a 1956 movie starring Bette Davis, Ernest Borgnine and Debbie Reynolds…and, no, it was not a musical! I immediately immersed myself in the material…reading the script, listening to the cast album and (pivotal to me) watching the old film. I felt connected to the story somehow…it was the heightened family dynamic that really drew me in. That sealed it…I must be a part of this production! It was an ensemble piece, and with Alan Bailey at the helm directing it…I knew it would be honored and taken care of in only the way Alan could…with deep deep care and finesse. I was cast as Jane (the daughter) alongside an ensemble of MTG actors each perfectly cast for their part…which doesn’t always happen in MTG. In Musical Theatre Guild, sometimes we are stretched as actors to take on parts that we may never be cast for…which is one reason I love being an MTG member! But this was different. It was organic. The piece dealt with raw family and human emotions, and we were all completely committed to the deep complexities before us. Our 25-hour rehearsal period was unlike no other I’ve experienced with MTG. So many heartfelt tears. We were emotionally exhausted and exhilarated at the same time. We were in awe of each other as actors…allowing ourselves to dig deeply into the material. It was a heightened family drama and we went there. No pretenses, just raw human emotion. It was quite simply, beautiful. One thing that really stands out was the inspiring writing of John Bucchino and Harvey Fierstein. The songs literally flowed out of each actor as extended monologues… flowing in and out of dialogue. Never have I performed in a piece that the songs so effortlessly furthered the story in and out of dialogue…it was remarkable. This was an unforgettable experience for me as an actor.
