With a book by two of America’s most gifted humorists, ONE TOUCH OF VENUS features Kurt Weill’s most lovely score (“Speak Low”, “That’s Him”, “I’m a Stranger Here Myself”). Little seen despite its 567 performance Broadway run, the show improbably tells of a Grecian statue coming to life and becoming involved with a modern day barber. After Marlene Dietrich backed out during rehearsals (calling the show “too sexy and profane”), VENUS established Mary Martin as a true Broadway star.
