IT'S A BIRD... IT'S A PLANE... IT'S SUPERMAN
November 20, 2006
at the Alex Theatre

Book by David Newman and Robert Benton
Music by Charles Strouse, Lyrics by Lee Adams

Directed by Lewis Wilkenfeld

Musical Direction by Dan Redfeld
Choreographed by Lee Martino
Produced by Melissa Fahn & Patty Paul

Based on the comic strip, "Superman"

Even though it got highly respectable reviews (“Sheer comic-strip adventure served hot and ready”, said the NY Morning Telegraph) and ran almost 150 performances, this 1966 musical has never had a west coast revival. Until now! The story (by "Bonnie & Clyde" writers Benton & Newman) has Superman facing a mad scientist, an evil newsman and, perhaps worse, a foe for the hand of Lois Lane. Strouse & Adams' score is sophisticated fun (“You’ve Got Possibilities”) and a worthy follow-up to their Bye Bye Birdie. Come discover the musical “Man of Steel!”
