At 693 performances, Li'l Abner is perhaps the biggest forgotten hit of the 1950's. Based on characters from Al Capp's legendary comic strip, the musical includes all your favorite characters from Dogpatch (which in this version, the U.S. government wants to use as a nuclear testing site!), including Abner, Daisy Mae, Mammy & Pappy Yokum, Marryin' Sam, Stupefyin' Jones and, yes, Apassionata Von Climax. Ostensibly the story of Daisy Mae's quest for marriage, Li'l Abner is a satiric, tuneful laugh-fest.
