Christopher Callen is one of the 7 Founding Members of The Musical
Theatre Guild. Aptly named for the Patron Saint of Travelers,
Christopher has performed world wide in 37 countries. She has also
starred in 12 shows on Broadway including; Maria in LEND ME A TENOR;
Hodel in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF (opposite Zero Mostel); Maggie in OVER
HERE (opposite John Travolta); Margot in THE DESERT SONG; Martha in
1776 and the revue - RODGERS & HART.
Ms. Callen has also starred in every major Equity theatre in the Los
Angeles area - the Ahmanson, Mark Taper, Pantages, Pasadena Playhouse
and the ill-fated Shubert. During the last few years, she has been
graced with the opportunity to play the “Soap Star “ in many
productions of MENOPAUSE THE MUSICAL - LA, San Francisco, Upland,
Rochester, Sarasota and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia!
She has just been cast in the lead starring role of the mother,
Margaret, in the local LA Premiere of LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA which will
open in January 2009. at the West Covina Center for the Performing Arts.
Television audiences will recognize her from regular series roles of
Dr. Gail Dexter on "One Life to Live", Ellie on "Young and the
Restless"; Mrs. Callahan on Ed Asner’s series "Bronx Zoo", Mimi on "Webb Girls" and many guest appearances. Most recently, Ms Callen was
seen on "Mystery ER" and starred in 6 episodes of "Fawlty Towers -
Oxnard", a remake of the John Cleese series. She can also be seen in
two hit music videos - Randy Travis' "Faith in You" and Toby Keith/Mica Roberts' “What Mama Don’t Know”. (She plays Mama!)
Film credits include "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" (opposite
Johnny Depp and Benicio del Toro); "The Enchanted"; "Faith"; "Almost
Perfect"; "War Zone"; "Horseshoe"; and the award winning Independent
feature, "Insides of the Lamb", where she plays a woman dealing with
Alzheimer’s.
Listed in “Who’s Who in the American Musical Theatre", she is also
a recipient of LA Weekly’s Humanitarian Theatre Award and a GLADD
Award. Ms. Callen has produced 35 Equity theatre productions in Los
Angeles, including the world-wide acclaimed original production of
AIDS/US - PORTRAITS IN PERSONAL COURAGE.
When not away on acting assignments, she teaches her Musical Theatre
Class- “Acting the Song”, is a professional artist (having had her
worked exhibited at the Gray Gallery in Bergamot Station and the
Jackson Gallery on Melrose in LA), photographer, published poet,
active member of Citizen’s Commission on Human Rights and Artists
for Human Rights. She is currently developing a plan for her world
touring Arts installation - Peace IS Possible Project - with Amnesty
